Interview with Sara Lloris - @honolalab
"I’m afraid I always prioritize design over anything else. For me, form does not follow function."
I'm Sara, a young woman of 29 who emigrated to Switzerland five years ago. After living in Zurich for three years, I moved to Basel. I studied journalism and I'm now a freelancer: I create content on social networks around design, interior decoration and a bit of lifestyle in this city, which is the perfect setting for developing my interests.
As a freelancer, I also create content for other profiles, including Basel Tourism, which allows me to stay up to date with the city’s cultural agenda and visit the main contemporary art museums, galleries, Art Basel, Design Miami, and other spaces and events that have enriched the content on my personal profile as well.
How would you define your personal decorating style?
If I had to pick a specific category, I’d say: modern Scandinavian. I’m passionate about untreated light wood—I’d put it on the ceiling, floor, and walls if I could. I try to select light-colored furniture to make the most of the limited natural light in my apartment, and I bring in contemporary touches through designer lamps, textiles, colorful accessories, and original prints. In the bedroom, I keep things neutral and soft because I aim for the calmest vibe possible.
What attracts you the most when choosing a piece of furniture or decorative object?
I’m afraid I always prioritize design over anything else. For me, form does not follow function.
When it comes to picking a decorative object, I honestly get excited about owning iconic pieces of industrial design. Any object by George Nelson is more than welcome in my 60 square meters.

What’s your favorite corner of your home, the one you’ve most enjoyed decorating and why?
At the moment, the wall in my kitchen/dining room for three key elements: the pine TV cabinet from Naan Furniture (a Valencian brand), theNobodinoz x Heju shelf which holds my favourite objects from home, as well as a few books, and just a few centimetres away from my latest acquisition: a ball clock by George Nelson, a limited edition released by Vitra a few months ago. I couldn't resist it.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start defining their own interior style?
I’d tell them to look inward, how they like to dress, what books they read, the places they feel most comfortable in, and what kinds of things they’d enjoy seeing around them every day. To be honest, sometimes I feel like I’d love to live inside a museum shop.
What do you like best about the room in the Studio Heju x Nobodinoz collection ?
I love the combination of the light ash wood with the darker tones, and how it has a sculptural yet minimalist feel.
What does the word “home” mean to you? Is it a place, a concept, a feeling?
Home is the setting where life unfolds. Four walls where you’re free to be or do whatever you want in an intimate and pleasant way.
