Interview with Antonella Tignanelli

The chef, creative director and founder of @masa.vins explains how she reconciles her personal and professional life: "A few years ago, I decided to concentrate more on creative direction and to manage things from home rather than being in my restaurant cooking. This way, I can spend more time with my family. She is the mother of Luca, a very active 6-year-old boy.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I have one child, Luca, who is six years old.

What is your daily family life like?

Our daily routine starts with a few minutes of struggling to wake up. Then, we have yogurt with cereal. There’s always some convincing involved when getting dressed and heading to school by bike. In the afternoon, we always do sports activities. Luca plays football, karate, and tennis during the week, and yet, when he gets home, he still has energy to play! We play board games, cook, take a bath, and go to bed.

How do you balance your professional life with your family routine? How do you make time for quality moments with them?

In my profession, it’s difficult to spend time at home, especially in the evenings. That’s why, a few years ago, I decided to focus more on creative direction and manage things from home instead of being in my restaurant cooking. This way, I can still spend quality time with my family.

Describe an activity you enjoy as a family at home. What do you love doing together for fun?

We prepare 'milanesas' once a week, play lots of board games and watch films together.

How would you describe your taste in interior design?

Ufff, I don’t have just one specific style—I like many things. I create spaces and build unique atmospheres, and I’ve done many different styles. My home has a Japanese-inspired design.

What do you look for when choosing a piece of furniture and integrating it into your daily life?

It should be timeless and always comfortable.

Describe your three favorite places in Barcelona to enjoy with your child: a place to have a drink, a place to play, and a place to experience culture.

For a drink, we have fun when we go to my restaurant—Luca sometimes serves tables and enjoys it a lot, and so do the guests! We love going to CosmoCaixa and the Fundació Miró.
