You’re a mother of two boys. What does a typical day look like for you, balancing photoshoots, other projects, deadlines and family life?
If I’m on location for a styling job, I’m often out the door early, before everyone else has even left the house. When I’m working from home, preparing shoots, hunting for props, working on collaborations or designing projects for my husband’s company, the day starts a little differently.
I get up early, make breakfast and prepare the boys’ lunches for school. And honestly, I really need that first coffee and a shower in the morning to properly wake up.
Then I cycle to school with Kaya and walk him to his classroom. Gabriel is already at high school and cycles there by himself. Once I’m back home, I usually tidy up a little and then head out for a workout. Exercise has genuinely become my lifesaver over the past few years. It keeps me physically fit, but just as importantly, it helps me stay mentally balanced.
After that, I open my laptop and get into work mode for a few hours, until it’s time to pick Kaya up from school. The boys usually get started on their homework or play outside with friends while I prepare dinner early.
There’s a lot of football in our household, so evenings are often filled with training sessions. During their training sessions, my husband and I often go for a walk together. It’s a nice little moment for us to catch up and spend some time together, because we’re really bad at organising date nights, haha!
Weekends revolve around football too. Saturdays usually start early because of the boys’ matches, so Sundays are a bit sacred in our family. We love taking it slow in the morning and having a long, relaxed breakfast together. After that, we simply see what we feel like doing.
Sometimes it’s a quiet Sunday with a walk on the beach, followed by homemade pizza, made by my husband, and a movie with the whole family. And quite often, there are extra family members or friends around the table too. We have a bit of a revolving door at our house; family members will drop by for a good cup of coffee or simply stay for dinner.
Other Sundays, we might head into Amsterdam or go somewhere else for the day. But more often than not, we love being outdoors, exercising and spending time in nature together as a family. And usually, some extended family joins us, which makes it even more lively. It can be a wonderfully busy and chaotic household, but that’s exactly how we like it.
