Interview with Capucine Vaysse

News

After leaving the fast-paced Parisian fashion industry for a slower, sun-drenched life in Arles, @capucinevaysse has built a family rhythm shaped by light, simplicity and the small joys of everyday life. As she beautifully says, “We now live a simpler life, made up of small everyday joys.”

Now, as Suzanne prepares to become a big sister, Capucine welcomes this new chapter with calm and confidence, creating a home that feels both elegant and deeply lived-in. An old arlesian house filled with stone walls, terracotta tiles, natural materials and carefully chosen objects that bring warmth, soul and harmony into family life.

In the children’s room, Nobodinoz pieces naturally find their place within this universe. The Pure children’s bed in solid oak blends beautifully with the home’s authentic textures, while the beanbag has become part of one of their sweetest daily rituals: reading Suzanne’s bedtime story every evening.

For the baby, the Wabi Sabi Darling print brings “a gentle, comforting atmosphere”, perfect for welcoming a newborn. A tender conversation about slowing down, creating with intention, finding beauty in simple rituals and building a family sanctuary where every piece has meaning.

You left the fast-paced Parisian fashion industry for a sun-drenched life in Arles. How has this beautiful change of scenery and pace influenced your family’s daily rhythm?

This change has completely transformed my way of life. We now live a simpler life, made up of small everyday joys. Light and sunshine play a central role in our lives, and we love spending time outdoors. My family has grown and taken shape here in the South of France, and I wouldn’t change that for anything in the world.

Suzanne is almost three and about to become a big sister! How are you preparing your home (and yourselves) for this exciting new chapter with your second child?

With far less stress than when our first child arrived! This time, we feel much more confident and know exactly what we need. We’re approaching this new chapter in a calmer and more relaxed way, focusing on what truly matters rather than all the little details. The main change has been moving Suzanne into a “big girl” bed, which she is very proud of, so that her old bed can be passed down to the baby.

Your aesthetic is wonderfully curated and joyful. How do you bring your love for warm textures, colors, and craftsmanship into your home’s interior design?

As our home is an old Arlesian house, incorporating natural materials during the renovation felt like the most natural choice. We’ve always been drawn to authentic textures and craftsmanship, and we love hunting for unique pieces at flea markets and antique fairs to bring character and soul into our interiors.

When it comes to color, the house already provides a beautiful palette. The stone walls bring warm beige tones, while the traditional terracotta floor tiles add rich reddish hues that create a lovely contrast. It therefore felt obvious to us to choose soft, muted colors throughout the rest of the home, allowing everything to remain balanced and harmonious. We wanted to preserve the warmth and authenticity of the house while creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere for family life.

Coming from the fashion industry, how do you keep your creative spark alive now that family is your main focus?

I work at an art gallery and interior design studio located just down the street from my home, which is incredibly inspiring on a daily basis. I also work part-time, allowing me to dedicate meaningful time to my family, a true luxury and something I had dreamed of when I decided to leave Paris.

Finding this balance between creative work and family life has been incredibly rewarding. My work keeps me connected to art, design and beautiful objects, while my family brings me a different kind of inspiration every day.

As you set up the spaces to accommodate both a playful toddler and a newborn, how do Nobodinoz pieces fit into your vision of a cozy and elegant family sanctuary?

The Pure children’s bed immediately found its place in the kids’ room. The solid oak blends beautifully with the stone walls and terracotta floor tiles, so much so that it feels as though it has always been there. I love how timeless and natural it looks within the space.

I’m also very fond of the pouf we have. Its colors fit perfectly with the room, and we use it every evening while reading Suzanne’s bedtime story before she goes to sleep. It has become part of one of our favorite daily rituals.

For the baby, I chose the Wabi Sabi Darling print because I find it incredibly soft and soothing. Its delicate tones create a gentle, comforting atmosphere, which is exactly what I wanted for a newborn’s space.

You beautifully said in a recent interview that the best childhood memories are rooted in simple things. What is one small, everyday ritual with Suzanne that you cherish the most?

I’d say that going out for an ice cream after Suzanne’s nap is a little ritual we’re both loving at the moment. That said, there are so many little rituals in our daily life, and they change all the time. As Suzanne grows, new habits and traditions naturally take their place, and I love that each phase comes with its own special memories.

If you could freeze one perfect, or wonderfully imperfect, moment in your home before the daily chaos begins, what would it look and feel like?

Our breakfasts around the kitchen table are precious moments. They’re a special time when we slow down and enjoy being together as a family before heading out for the day. No matter how busy life gets, those quiet moments in the morning help us reconnect and start the day on a gentle, happy note.

What are your absolute favorite hotspots in Arles to enjoy a lovely weekend with Henri and the kids?

Le Café Japonais, first and foremost because of Marina, the owner. We love her café and especially her delicious onigiri.

Plage Plage for its absolutely delicious ice creams (I recommend the soft serve), a must-stop treat for the whole family.

Le Comptoir du Nord-Pinus or Parcelle 22 for a relaxed drink and a few bites while watching the children play nearby.

The Arles Saturday Market, which is always a wonderful way to experience the city’s atmosphere and local produce.

Moustique, a lovely shop where we like to pick up gifts and souvenirs to bring home.

These are the kinds of simple places that make weekends in Arles so special for us: good food, a relaxed pace and plenty of opportunities to enjoy time together as a family.
