Interview with Martina Matencio
Photographer, creative soul and now mother of Macarena, Martina (@lalovenenoso ) welcomes us into a universe made of calm, light, textures and small details with soul.
In this conversation, she speaks about motherhood with the same sensitivity that defines her work behind the camera: as something immense, transformative and full of beauty, but also as a lesson in patience, self-love and trust. Her way of seeing the world reminds us that creativity often begins by slowing down: by stopping, observing, and noticing the quiet details that others might miss.
For Martina, creating Macarena’s room meant imagining a space that could transmit calm and beauty, but also have a little spark. A room with coherence, softness and pieces that tell a story. Welcome to the Nobodinoz community, Martina! Could you introduce yourself and your family?
I am Martina Matencio, I am 35 years old and I am a photographer.
Who will be joining your family soon?
My daughter Macarena. I write it and I say it, but I still can't quite grasp the idea, neither that I'm going to be a mother nor that I'm going to have a daughter!

Given your profession as a photographer, what is a typical day like for you, and how do you think you will combine it with your future motherhood?
The truth is I am a very calm person. I wake up very early and, while I have a coffee, I check emails, look at the news, maybe retouch a photo or think about which photo to upload to Instagram.
If I have a photoshoot that day, I eat breakfast while I do all this; and if not, I take my time and eat breakfast later, although I like to eat a good breakfast.
I have the feeling that my way of doing things won't change much, nor will my daily life. I think everything I do can be combined very well with motherhood. It's true that at first I won't be able to travel for work, at least for the first few months, but then I think I'll adapt and find ways to continue doing everything I really like.
I'm not afraid of that at all. Everyone tells you that life changes a lot, and of course it changes, but life is changing all the time. "The only thing that doesn't change, is that everything changes."

How are you experiencing this waiting period before the arrival of your baby?
It’s different from my life before. I feel strange about my body, impatient, I'm kind of expectant.
Despite many things that I don't like about being pregnant, I feel the arrival is something incredible, that makes me happy and makes me smile every time I think about it.
I truly feel that it is something amazing, and probably the biggest thing I will do in life.
How are you facing this new adventure?
With patience, because if pregnancy is giving me anything, it's learning to be patient, and I'll also tell you that I'm learning to love myself, strange but true.
As a photographer and creative, what advice would you give to someone who is looking for their style?
Never stop taking photos. Trust their way of seeing the world and, above all, observe, because we are too used to going fast, to running without stopping.
There are too many beautiful details everywhere in life, and that should be captured. But we run so fast that we don't see them.
One of the things I always tell my students in workshops is to stop and look, not to take photos without observing. Because if they stop and observe, they will see things that others don't.

What is creativity for you? What are your sources of inspiration in photography?
A way of looking at or seeing the world, I suppose, or even a way of feeling and perceiving things; it’s having a space in your mind to let it flow and imagine.
What inspires me the most are people, light, and spaces. Obviously, I always find inspiration in movies and books, but in these cases, it's always more unconscious.

What is most important to you when decorating your space? What does a furniture and décor brand need to have for you to notice it?
For me, the most important thing when decorating a space is that it transmits calm and beauty. That there is light, textures, and pieces that tell a story, that have soul.
I like everything to breathe coherence, but without seeming too forced.
Oh, and I always like to give it a touch of color, a red for example, a little Pedro Almodóvar.
I don't know if sensitivity can exist in furniture, but I like it to have careful details. I like to enter a space and feel that I am in a different universe from the one I came from. I don't know if I'm explaining myself.

You are in the process of creating your baby's space. What do you have in mind and what special details do you want to add?
To be honest, I love starting a space from scratch, because that allows me the freedom to create.
As happens a bit in the world of photography, the variety is infinite, and seeing and choosing everything available at Nobodinoz made it a bit difficult for me to form an idea, because I liked everything, but in the end I was able to organize my ideas and imagine "Macarena's room."
I wanted a relaxed space but with a spark at the same time, which is why I chose the lamp or the beanbag—I think they are the perfect touch to break from seriousness but always with a melancholic touch (which is how I am) haha.
In a world of fast consumption, what does it mean to you to choose durable and conscious pieces, like those you could find at Nobodinoz?
In a world where everything moves so fast, choosing durable pieces is a way to stop time a bit, I think.
To feel that it is something that remains, that has history and that can be inherited.
Choosing something conscious also has to do with caring. I like to think that every choice can be a gesture of calm amidst so much noise.

Barcelona is a meeting point for an effervescent community of creatives. What do you think is the best the city offers for your profession?
What I like about Barcelona is the tranquility and proximity. It is a place that invites you to look and find beauty in the everyday.
And finally, could you share 3 of your favorite city hotspots? Whether it's for dining, design, art, etc. Thank you very much!
Museu Can Framis: I love its architecture. I always imagine millions of photos inside... it seems marvelous to me.
Sin Amor Café: It's a coffee shop that already caught my attention because of its name, and I love it. Whenever I can, I go there for coffee; I like the light that comes in the mornings, the decor, the blue methacrylate at the entrance... and the pastry! Everything is delicious. These places remind me of being in a movie scene, although then I wake up and realize I have to go to work.
Llibreria Finestres: There are many that I like, but I find this one to be truly tranquil and honest. It's like it's not trying to impress, but in reality, it does.
